In 1993 the Royal Australian Mint struck a twenty dollar piece from sterling silver to commemorate the Olympic Centenary. Since then the mint has on occasion released twenty dollar coins as either commemorative (marking a significant event, person, or organisation) or investment pieces struck from precious metals.
