Dorothy Wall was born in New Zealand in 1894 and migrated to Sydney in 1914. Wall gained recognition as a children's book illustrator, working on books such as 'Jacko - the Broadcasting Kookaburra' and 'The Amazing Adventures of Billy Penguin'.(Diane Langmore, 1990) In 1933 she published 'Blinky Bill: The Quaint Little Australia' followed by 'Blinky Bill Grows Up' and 'Blinky Bill and Nutsy'. These books proved a huge success and the anthropomorphic koala Blinky Bill has become a well loved Australian children's character.
