The Kangaroo Series Special Edition three coin set was produced to show Great Australian Artists in Colour. The coin was minted in sterling silver and is part of a three coin set which includes Ken Done, Reg Mombassa and Rolf Harris. The mintage was limited to five thousand sets.

The Kangaroo is probably the animal that is most commonly associated with Australia. The kangaroo is a marsupial mammal of which there are over forty different species. They range from the largest (Red Kangaroo) to the smallest (Wallabies). The Red Kangaroo is the largest marsupial mammal in the world. The Kangaroo, along with the Emu, were selected as symbols of Australia and are featured on the official Australian coat of arms.
