1932 Florin

George V

The 1932 florin is the key date of the George V florin series and one of the scarcest pre-decimal coins overall, coming from a very low mintage of 188,000 it's easy to understand the basis for its rarity. The 1932 florin was produced during the great depression, with decreased spending, there was little need for circulating currency. Only the florin, penny and halfpenny were produced that year with the florin being by far the scarcest.

While 1932 is the unrivalled key date of the florin series in lower grades, in top grades the date is much easier to acquire than other key dates with one hoard of about 20 mint state coins surfacing accounting for the relative competitiveness from the 1914-H and 1915 florins in mint state despite their higher mintage figures of 500,000 each. Circulated examples of the date are almost always found with a slightly superior appearing reverse due to a slight concavity in the strike and while 8 pearls will be present from AU50 and up, they aren't always clear unless in mint state. A specimen strike was also produced for the year though it is not known to exist outside of public collections.
